Management Trainer and Consultant of SELECT TRAINING

Johan is an experienced Human Resources Professional with 29 years Human Resources and Consulting experience. He is passionate about people development and has spent most of his career specialising in development and training, career development, coaching and mentoring.

He started his career in the South African Defence Force as Medical Officer (as part of two year compulsory military service) to provide psychological assessment and evaluation services. During this period he conducted personality, aptitude and cognitive ability psychometric assessment and evaluation of military and special forces personnel in the Air force, Navy and Army and presented psychometric evaluation results to military selection boards for the appointment of commissioned, non-commissioned and special forces military staff.

After completing his military service Johan joined the South African Electricity Supply Commission during which he gained experience in all areas of human resources including personnel administration, industrial relations, performance management, recruitment and selection, job evaluation, manpower / succession planning, leadership development, team development, psychometric testing and evaluation. He was appointed as Senior Organisation Development Advisor during which he conducted organisational development interventions including climate surveys, management development, organisation development, team building sessions, coaching and mentoring. This experience enabled Johan to pursue a career at an International Management Consulting firm during which he managed several multi-disciplinary projects including organisation design, customer satisfaction surveys and change management.

Johan moved to Abu Dhabi in 1999 and joined the Human Resources Department of an oil company. During his employment, he was instrumental in leading the implementation of CAMS (Competence Assurance Systems), which is now replaced with YDP (Youth Development Programme). His role also allowed him to successfully conduct various coaching, mentoring, training and teambuilding sessions. Johan was a vital contributor in establishing required corporate performance contracts, key performance indicators and balanced scorecards. One of his most successful engagements was his key participation in the establishment of a Leadership Development Framework for the company.

Johan’s area of expertise lies in establishing and managing performance appraisal systems; training leaders on how to effectively conduct performance appraisals and handle sensitive and difficult people and conversations. He is passionate in learning and development and had developed an end to end learning process; from training needs analysis, vendor selection, programme implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

He is a registered Organisational Psychologist, Master Human Resources Professional (South African Board for People Practices) and Senior Professional [IPMSP] at the Institute of People Management-South Africa.
